I'm going to Europe for two weeks, and although I have a nice digital camera at home, I don't want to risk losing that one. What is the cheapest option I have (This trip was very expensive), is something under $100 possible? Also, I have rechargeable batteries, but will a cheap camera get me through a day? What kind of SD card would you recommend?

I regreted not taking my dslr with me on a trip once, the next trip i regreted not taking my tri-pod! Now i carry my dslr, 2 lenses and tri-pod on every trip...
But answering your question: If you have a newer phone the cameras in the latest phones are pretty decent, maybe a mini tri-pod to hold the phone could be useful too.

Hi robemeen
welcome to the forums

I agree with JT ... why on earth would your go on an awesome trip and not take your best camera ??
If you want cheap shots ... use the camera in your phone
if you want a great set of photo memories, take your DSLR

cheers
Dave

Hello Robe,

I would also talk my best camera with me if i went on holiday as something might happen where you will be kicking your self if something happened, If your worried about it getting lost or stolen your best to get camera insurance that is covered world wide the professional photographers insurance companies will do this.
You will be surprised how little the insurance cost will be for that piece of mind.

If you still don't want to go down that path of insurance for travelling take a look at a point and shoot but $100 will not get you much... Your phone could do a better job, but if your budget was $500 then you would have more choice.

For memory cards a Sandisk extreme 45MB/s 8GB or 16GB should do you nicely they buffer really fast I've never had a card fail on me

Regards
Simon
