Hi,
I'm new to this site and am in desperate need of some technical help please.
I have a canon eos 1000d which I have owned for 9 years and looked after really well.
Suddenly my screen has gone totally blank. I am unable to access any settings on it or view anything at all.
Is there anything that I may have done to have made it stop working or is it simply a dead screen that will need replacing?
Thank you in anticipation.

G'day Arthur,

Welcome to Karl's place,we hope you enjour your stay.

My suggestion would be to look at your user manual to see if there is a function button to determine if the screen can be made to not display, such as pressing a Display button on the back of the body.

You also may want to check in the view finder that the camera is actually working, such as changing the shutterspeed and aperture and that the focusing is working.

If all this checks out, then there probably is a fault somewhere in the body / screen module, and a body of that age is probably not really worth repairing, but to replace the body with a new one. Purely because of the repair costs verses the replacement cost.

Hope this is helpful.

Regards,
Craig

Hi Craig,
I've had a look in the manual but cannot find anything and the camera works perfectly well other than this.

Thanks very much for the help

I've just done a search on the web and there is a button on the left beside the Menu button called DISP, this is the Display button, try pressing it and wait between presses to see if its just been set to blank.

You could also try changing the button that says Set. Look in the user manual to see what functions are changeable on the Set button
